Patronage Meditation, Spain, Soldiers & Injury Recovery
Feast Day July 31
As a young man, Iñigo was a soldier in Pamplona, Spain. Within battle he refused to surrender, got hit by a cannonball, and broke his leg. In his recovery, he discovered and read about the Catholic saints. This inspired him in his faith, leading him to become a priest, found the Society of Jesus, and develop a series of spiritual exercises in meditation that are largely still used to this day.

Portrait of St. Ignatius (Jacopino del Conte − 1556)
15th Century Cannon
This is to show how Ignatius was injured in battle.
The tiger lilies symbolize his stubbornness revolving around his healing process from the injury and how his faith became a place of solace to last into meditation.
The vines remind us of meditation, and how we can be if we allow ourselves the space to do the spiritual exercises of mindfulness in the present moment.
