Feast Day August 14

During WWII, Kolbe, a Franciscan Friar, ran anti-Nazi publications while hiding 2K Jewish refugees from the Gestapo in his friary. He was arrested and sent to Auschwitz Concentration Camp in Poland. While there, a prisoner escaped. The Nazis chose ten prisoners to execute as a result. Fr. Kolbe volunteered to be executed in place of a young man who screamed for his wife and children.

Small Snippet

Saint Maximilian, intercede to the Holy Ghost that I may with selfless love, that I take courage in the moments that make a difference.

Pocket Prayer

Artistic Process

Original Painting

I bought this painting in Krakow, Poland when I studied abroad in 2016.

Chrysanthemum

These flowers symbolize sacrifice and selflessness in Japanese culture, which I wanted to highlight because earlier in his life, Maximilian Kolbe did mission work in Japan.

I took these in the botanical gardens of Washington D. C. They symbolize martyrdom, which Maximilian Kolbe did, giving his life for his faith.

Palm Photos

Maximilian Kolbe was hugely devoted to Mary in his prayer. He called himself and his disciples, the Militia Immaculata.

Marian Imagery

This was one of the first designs I made for Myndful Mystic.
