St. Edith Stein

Holy Philosopher (1891 – 1942)

Patronage Agnostic Converts

Feast Day August 9

Fun Fact

Edith was born Jewish and became agnostic as she grew up. Teresa of Avila’s autobiography inspired her to become a Christian, and Carmelite nun. Despite her Christianity, the Nazis arrested her for being a baptized Jew. A Dutch official offered her an escape before she was sent to Auschwitz. She declined the offer to be in solidarity with those who had no escape.

Prayer

Saint Edith, intercede to the Holy Ghost that I may embrace who I am meant to be, that no matter what escapes are offered, I will do what is right for me and those around me.

Amen.
