About the Artwork
Agatha’s illustration was inspired by a combination of strength and dignity. With strength, I drew from the legend that tells of volcanic eruptions happening at the time of her death. I chose to use photos of fragmented pieces of ice to create the lava around her. Since Agatha’s breasts were cut off, I felt it best to express this volatile image with reverence and dignity. We’re not here to see the gruesome torture inflicted upon her, but it is important to refer to her pain in a respectful manner.
